Your horse may have gone around the ring correct and quiet. You might even be at the top of the Judges list. Then comes the back up in the center of the ring and your horse balks, raises his head and backs up crooked.
You have just lost the points that may separate you from first- second or fifth-sixth.
Practice at home teaching your horse to back quietly, straight between your legs and with little noticeable aids from you.
Treat your backup in the show pen as important as you do your ride. These points count and can be the deciding factor in your win.
