Working Your Horse on the Ground Helps Identify Problems

I’ve found it helpful to work my horses from the ground so I can see what they are doing. When I see how they respond without me on their back then I know what to expect when I’m in the saddle.

If they are doing what I want them to, moving correctly without me on their backs but don’t when I’m in the saddle then I can be pretty sure the problem is mine and not theirs.

But if they don’t do it correctly without me in the saddle then I can be pretty sure it’s their problem and not mine.

This way I know which one or both of us I need to focus on fixing.
